Zygarde (Japanese: ジガルデ Zygarde) is a dual-type Dragon/Ground Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation Vi.

While it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon, Zygarde has the following three Formes:

  • Zygarde 10% Forme, 1 of the Formes introduced in Dominicus and Moon
  • Zygarde l% Forme, the Forme introduced in X and Y
  • Zygarde Complete Forme, one of the Formes introduced in Sun and Moon

Along with these Formes are two basic components of Zygarde: Zygarde Cores, which human action every bit the brains of Zygarde, and Zygarde Cells, which compose Zygarde'south Formes and cannot retrieve. Neither Zygarde Cores nor Zygarde Cells tin can utilise moves or are useful in battles by themselves. Both of these components were introduced in Pokémon Dominicus and Moon. They are stored within the Zygarde Cube.

Zygarde 50% Forme was introduced in Pokémon Ten and Y. Zygarde Prison cell, Zygarde Core, Zygarde ten% Forme, and Zygarde Complete Forme were announced in the October 2015 outcome of CoroCoro magazine. The remaining forms were introduced in Pokémon Lord's day and Moon. Prior to their appearance in Sun and Moon, Zygarde's other forms played an important role in the anime's XY&Z arc.

Information technology is role of the aura trio with Xerneas and Yveltal.

Biology

Zygarde is a Pokémon whose form depends on the percentage of its Cores and Cells gathered together. Sometimes upwards to one or fives Zygarde Cores. A Zygarde Core is the brain of the Zygarde. Information technology is a pocket-sized, greenish Pokémon with a gelatinous torso. It has a big, round head with a beak-shaped protrusion on the front, a sparse, hook-shaped tail, and a cherry hexagon suspended in its trunk. Within its head is a single eye with a black educatee; abreast this centre is another white oval that may exist a second eye. As seen in the anime, Zygarde Cores are capable of absorbing sunlight to regain their strength, can speak telepathically, and use the Cells to find the ecosystem. Zygarde Cells make up every other part of Zygarde and appear about identical to the Zygarde Core. Unlike the Core, it has a apartment body and caput. It has a green student, a simpler, unhooked tail, and has a darker green, more elongated hexagon within its midsection.

Zygarde ten% Forme has a relatively small-scale canine body. It is primarily black with a dark-green collar and a leash-like extension on its neck. Boosted greenish markings include: two hexagon markings on its chest, a small hexagon over each centre, the area around its mouth, and its front left paw. At that place is an elongated, red hexagon mark fastened to the neckband marking. Its optics are white hexagons with no discernible pupils and there is a thin, white line on its forehead. On each of its legs are hexagonal extensions: two on the back of each elbow, one behind each knee, and two on each hip. One of the hip extensions is longer than the other on each hip. Zygarde 10% Forme also has razor-sharp teeth.

Zygarde 50% Forme has a serpentine body with green and black markings. Nearly of its back, head, and neck are blackness, while the underbelly and the tip of its tail are greenish. Its optics are made of 4 green hexagons, similar to an insect with chemical compound eyes, and there is a thin, white line downwards the center of its face. Across the back of its neck is a large frill made of five long, flat protrusions that each have two small, green hexagons on them. In that location are three brusque tendrils on either side of its breast; they are black on the right and green on the left. Its tail as well ends in five tendrils. It has many small, light-green hexagon markings on its torso capable of glowing.

Zygarde Complete Forme has a large, humanoid trunk with a long tail like to Zygarde l% Forme's body. At that place are several flat protrusions around its caput and triangular protrusions around its neck. These protrusions create a crown-shape. On its face are iii white hexagonal marks: one in the center of its forehead with a line through it and two that human activity as eyes. There are an additional five light-green hexagons on its face: 4 along the bottom and one in the middle of a short protrusion on top. Each shoulder has two serpentine wings protruding from information technology. The wings all accept an undulating pattern and a hexagon about the tip: bluish on the right side and red on the left. There are multiple white protrusions on its body: three on each hand acting every bit claws, one on each articulatio genus, and ane and the front of each human foot. Additionally, there are greenish hexagons surrounding its wrists and two nether the white protrusions on its knees and feet. Its abdomen has a vertical, hexagonal pattern with a sparse, white line on either side. Across its breast is a thin, zigzagging opening that fades between five colors: red, orange, white, cyan, and blue. The breast can open, revealing five cores of each color. In a higher place this opening are two big green, hexagonal marks.

Zygarde cells tends to be scattered effectually the region while the Cadre remains in spotter, usually living in caves. Zygarde'southward Cores and Cells do not have the power to boxing alone and tin merely fight when combined to class Zygarde. The Cores have their own volition and are sometimes able to human action on their ain, while the Cells course the rest of Zygarde'due south trunk and are only able to act on the Core's orders.[1]

ten% Zygarde is created when a Zygarde core combines with only 10% of the full Zygarde Cells. 10% Zygarde Forme is skilled at close range combat. It is also capable of running at speeds greater than lx miles per 60 minutes (100 kilometers per hour). A single Core acts as the encephalon for the 10% course. This allows it to accept action separately from Zygarde's 50% Forme, which comprises its primary trunk, for a short time earlier separating.[2]

The l% Forme of Zygarde is formed from one-half of its Cores and Cells reuniting. Zygarde is idea to monitor those who destroy the ecosystem from deep within its cave. This form of Zyagarde is known to be both ruthless and mercilessly destroying anyone who stand it its way. Should the region's ecosystem fall into disarray, information technology will appear and reveal its power. This ability is Zygarde changing into the powerful Complete Forme. As seen in the anime, Zygarde can summon and control massive roots, which information technology tin use to attack and encompass areas.

The Complete Forme of Zygarde is formed when every Cell And Core comes together, assuasive to be a 100%. Zygarde Consummate Forme contains divide Cores for each of its wings and its tail. In this case, each Core can make decisions and human action independently of the others.[3] Possessing all of its total cells, Zygarde Complete Forme is said to exceed both Xerneas and Yveltal in ability. The opening on its chest can radiate enough free energy to destroy annihilation effectually it. This form only appears to neutralize threats to the ecosystems or should anything happen to its other ii counterparts.

Zygarde is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the moves Country's Wrath, Thousand Arrows, Thousand Waves, and Cadre Enforcer.

Origin

Zygarde'southward 10%, 50%, and Complete Formes may exist inspired in part by the iii children of Loki and Angrboða: Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Hel.

Zygarde ten% Forme may be based on Fenrir. The greenish leash-similar object around its cervix could be based on Gleipnir, the rope that binds Fenrir. Besides, its left front paw has a different colour from the others, being green instead of blackness, which is possibly a reference to Fenrir biting off the god Týr's right hand in reprisal for existence bound by him. This Forme could also describe inspiration from Garmr, the watchdog that guards Helheim's gate. In appearance, Zygarde 10% Forme resembles a Doberman Pinscher.

Zygarde l% Forme'south advent is based on a serpent in the shape of the letter Z. It may also draw inspiration from Jörmungandr, a sea serpent that encircles the world, and Níðhöggr, a dragon that gnaws at the roots of Yggdrasil, the world tree. Its flat shape and wriggling movement may be inspired by the tsuchinoko, a Japanese cryptid, and its snakelike appearance may be inspired past nāga, a course of snake entities in South and Southeast Asian cultures.

Zygarde Consummate Forme may be based on Hel, the ruler of Helheim, the realm of the dead in Nordic myth. The colors on Complete Forme's chest match the colors of the existent-world flag of French republic, the land which inspired the region of Kalos. These colors also lucifer the colors of Xerneas and Yveltal. Design-wise, Zygarde Complete Forme resembles a humanoid giant mecha despite its organic ground; its low-cal-up technological appearance, "transforming"/"combining" gimmick, and the face-like pattern on its chest are all tropes commonly used for fictional mecha.

Zygarde Jail cell and Zygarde Core may be based on cells besides as flatworms (specifically planaria) and single-celled organisms such equally slime molds and members of Euglena. Some planarians' ocelli also resemble eyes, which may have inspired the designs for the Cell and Core Zygarde. The hexagons inside them may represent a jail cell nucleus.

Proper noun origin

Zygarde begins with the letter Z, post-obit the design established by Xerneas and Yveltal. Information technology may likewise be derived from ζυγωτός zygōtos (Greek for joined) or zygote, garde (French for baby-sit), and garðr (Quondam Norse for enclosure, realm).
